Take-off description

Large takeoff situated at the black forest's "main ridge" and thus thermally very reliable. The site also serves as the primary LZ. Use the northern half for takeoffs, and the southern part for landing.

Getting there

From Strassbourg it's very simple it's straight away to Germany. Follow direction A5 (Basel - Karlsruhe) but don't go on the motorway. Follow the road to Oberkirch, then Oppenau city. In Oppenau take left at the first roundabout then drive until you pass the door of the city. It's the second road on your right. Climb the mountain on the Schwarzwaldhochstrasse. You should see start place on your right at the end of ascension. If you are lost, keyword to ask someone is 'Zuflucht'.

Weather

South wind is flyable but dangerous when starting. Strong wind from North-West may be also dangerous all around the takeoff: very bumpy.

Rules / airspace

Site briefings are mandatory. Ask any local. Guests need to pay a small fee. Ask any local or use PayPal. Don't fly low in the area of the scale model flight area 500m on the right hand of the takeoff. Natural reservation behind the takeoff. Don't fly there too low, minimum 300m agl, and don't land there. Anyway there are many trees and you can not land there.

Comments

This is probably the best site of the northern black forest and has seen many awesome flights.
