Take-off description

TO's are on top of the 'Weisshorn' (>> see pictures). In Summer the only direction available is SW, in Winter it's also possible to TO towards NE. In Winter TO is performed on the (groomed) ski slopes. Theoretically this is not allowed in Switzerland. On the Weisshorn it's tolerated, as long as one leaves enough space for the skiers/ snowboardes to pass... TO to the NNW: VERY short, there is NO space for an aborted TO!!! (see picture).

Getting there

Gondola from 'Arosa'. 'Arosa' can be reached from 'Chur' either by train (RhB) or by car. Timetable on: http://www.sbb.ch

Weather

Föhn!!! As the 'Weisshorn' stands virtually alone and is looking like a pyramid, the wind situation can be VERY tricky! If in doubt take the cable car down (free for PG-pilots, when not flying due to wx!) So far several accidents due to wind!!! Rules / airspace

Airspaces in Switzerland are a tough subject, get all the info you can get before flying: http://www.flyland.ch. DABS (active danger areas etc): http://www.skybriefing.com/portal/home For flights to Chur (and North towards Landquart): Heliport Untervaz becomes a factor (> see pix).
