Take-off description

You must take off only from the area marked by wooden poles. In order to avoid congestion and save the grass on the takeoff please prepare you glider behind the takeoff area and come to the takeoff zone only when you are ready.

Getting there

As the takeoff site is in the park, the car must be let at the entrance and then walk approximately 45min-1h. Alternatively, take the shuttle bus from the parking of the Mercato. Please note that number of shuttle runs is limited to 2 per day and maximum 3 on weekends. The shuttle can accommodate up to 8 pilots and up to 16 bags. Book you place on the whatsap chat (see the link under section "rules"). For the working days, booking shuttle is compulsory. Minimum 3 persons required. The site can be accessible by walking on one of the trails all year long.

Weather

The aerology of Piossasco and the whole arc of the Alps offers unique weather for flying. The site is flyable (at least a glide) for over 300days a year. Do not fly with foen winds! Extremely turbulent and dangerous. Keep eye on rapidly developing thunderstorms in the summer months, although since Piossasco is a bit out of the main mountain range, you will see the overdevelopments elsewhere before they reach this flying site. Don't take risks!

Rules / airspace

Pilots face lots of regulations continuously imposed by park's authorities, the situation is fragile and several times there has been a risk of permanent closure of this otherwise nice flying site. It is important for everyone to respect the rules and airspaces in order to keep this flying site open. The flying site can be used all year long again! However the shuttle can operate only from March until end of October, in the winter months you must walk up to the takeoff. If you are flying here for more than a single day, you are invited to get a temporary membership card from the Club's website www.vololiberopiossasco.it The park's regulations allow only maximum of 2 or 3 shuttles per day, each max. 8 persons. The reservation of the place in the shuttle for the pilot, or for the bag only is possible in a dedicated whatsapp group starting from the evening before. The group can be joined by the following link: https://chat.whatsapp.com/KdTOACZ0PTn5ajU2A7OQ3X?mode=gi_t Cumiana airfield is nearby (few kilometers south), beware of the skydiving activity there, and better - fly around their airfield. The CTR of Turin aiport is also very close, do not fly cross country towards the city of Turin or towards east. The maximum allowed altitude over the takeoff is 1670m, and it drops to 1067m on the flatlands beyond the SP6/SS589 road.

Comments

Despite the fact this flying site has been included in park's territory, and flying is under constant pressure of laws and regulations, people frequent this site on all flyable days. Good flatland XC flights are possible also on the days when the sky over mountains is too cloudy.
