Take-off description
Cleared area near ridgetop where power lines leave ridge for Yelapa. Two launch spots possible for slightly different wind directions (E & NNE). Short runway with steep drop-off requires decent launch skills.
Getting there
Arrive in Yelapa by water taxi from Puerto Vallarta. Walk up pathways & a dirt trail from town to parking area near cemetery. You can hike the road (1.5 hours) to launch, hike a trail that is shorter & shadier, or hire a pickup truck ride for $10 per person from local pilot(25 minutes to launch). No cars in the town of Yelapa itself.
Weather
Opposing winds above launch, variable upslope and over-the-back cycles on launch.
Comments
Prevailing afternoon winds are from the west which is over the back. Most launches happen mid-morning when thermals begin to blow upslope on the front side, temporarily overpowering the prevailing winds.
