Take-off description

Take the Ice Road (or Ferry) over to West Dawson and head up the Top of the World HIghtway. When you come to Sunnydale Road, stay right, then pull over just before the road banks right. The trail head is there and is about a five minute hike. The launch is fairly small, there are trees to clear as well as a river to fly across to get to the LZ. Due to the river in Summer, this makes the launch for Advanced pilots only. In winter or spring, when the river is frozen, this site is safer to launch from.

Getting there

Be sure to contact Stephen Johnson if you're planning on flying there. He will help you find the trail and he's also he pilot who developed the site.

Weather

The Yukon River.

Rules / airspace

Float Plane traffic as well as helicopters can fly in the area. Contact the Airport via phone or Airband prior to launching.

Comments

This site provides a launch in East Wind. You must be able to cross the river to get there. This can be is an advanced site due to crossing the river. Be prepared. There is XC potential to head up the Top of the World Highway, but you will need to arrange retrieval or be prepared to hitchhike back.
