Descripción del despegue
Rather inclined and smooth takeoff field from the eastern crest of the mountain. Takeoff is to the south. Easily reachable by approx 30-40min trekking from the central square of the Caselette village. As of autumn 2011, there is an Italian flag installed on the takeoff site also serving as a windsock.
Cómo llegar
From Turin: 1) Take whatever road and get to Alpignano, from there follow indications to Susa or Caselette. 2) From Tangenziale take the exit 'Statale 24' and follow the indications to Susa or Caselette. When in Caselette, follow the indications to the central market square. Take the small road left from the monastery park and follow it for 200m until the parking. The path towards Monte Musine starts from there. It takes approximately 30-40min walk to reach the takeoff site. Just a hint, the takeoff site is before passing underneath the high voltage power line. Takeoff is a little bit before it.
Meteo
Do not fly with strong westerly and especially with foen winds. Check the weather forecast, foen may take you by surprise, appear in just 30min out of nowhere and produce up to 70kmh very turbulent wind. You don't want to fly it even by a speedglider.
Normativa / espacio aéreo
Pianezza airfield is nearby, their circuit is always on the west (towards mountains) and at 700ft AGL, so beware of light sport aircraft traffic. Do not fly towards Torino further than town of Rivoli, the CTR of Caselle international airport and ATZ of Aeritalia airport starts approximately there there.
Comentarios
Rather nice flying site offering panorama over the Caselette village and its monastery. It is a rarely frequented flying site, because it is very difficult to find any useful thermals in the area, or soar in dynamics. Exception may be late spring before the valley breeze of Valle Susa gets noticeably strong and blows away all the thermals. Occasional some pilots use it as way to get down after trekking to Musine peak, or just for a beautiful autumnal glide.
